Camilla Belich to the Minister of Corrections: What pilot programmes, if any, have been initiated by any departments or agencies for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, and what were their commencement dates, durations, funding sources and amounts, objectives, and current status?

Hon Mark Mitchell: As one of New Zealand’s largest public service departments, Corrections employs approximately 11,000 staff and is responsible for managing around 10,500 prisoners and approximately 26,000 people in the community. Corrections manages 17 prisons and a significant number of Community Corrections sites across the country. As pilot programmes can be run at site level and across regions, Corrections has advised that they would have to consult extensively across their organisation to be able to accurately respond to this request, which I am not prepared to ask of my officials for the purposes of this response.
