39178 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: What, if any, assessment tool will be used to understand the needs of participants on the pilot Military-Style Academy?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that existing assessment tools will be used to provide an holistic view of wellbeing, risk, safety and needs of the young people involved in the pilot. The assessment will also draw on previous assessment reports and professional and family views. The Good Lives Model will also be applied, which is aimed at reducing the risk of reoffending. The assessment will inform a plan that guides the young person, their family and staff in supporting the changes needed to offset offending risks and shift the young person towards an improved and better life.
