39172 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Why does the Minister consider that a military component is required to address youth offending in the pilot military-style academies?

Hon Karen Chhour: The focus is on making a difference to the lives of the young people who will be part of the Military-Style Academy to enable them to thrive and positively contribute to their families and community. As announced on 5 March 2024, to achieve this the Academy will include a military-style component as well as a rehabilitative and trauma-informed care approach to help these young people turn their lives around and reduce their risk of reoffending.
