Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Defence: Was any assessment undertaken as to whether the 2026 NZDF remuneration adjustment would improve, maintain, or reduce fair relativity with remuneration received elsewhere for the purposes of section 45(2)(a) of the Defence Act 1990; if so, what was the outcome of that assessment?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: Yes. The assessment highlighted that senior military officer pay remained markedly below market benchmarks and the NZDF made an adjustment to improve that relativity.
