39106 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (January to March 2024) to ‘Improve the detection and management of hepatitis B and C’ under Outcome 3: New Zealanders have fewer cancers, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised during the January to March 2024 quarter, several initiatives were progressed. These included:
- The network of Hepatitis C Point of Care testing community providers was further expanded across New Zealand.
- A prototype Hepatitis C Support and Treatment telehealth service was launched.
- Pilot studies to test general population screening for Hepatitis C in community laboratories and in emergency departments were progressed.
- An online training programme to support the reclassification of Maviret for nurses and pharmacists was developed.
- Planning for a public campaign to raise awareness of Hepatitis C is underway.
