Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (January to March 2024) to ‘Enhance prevention campaigns, including promotion through a range of settings’ under Outcome 3: New Zealanders have fewer cancers, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised during the January to March 2024 quarter, the following progress was made to enhance and promote prevention campaigns: - Statements of Work were developed in preparation for identifying the requirements of the BreastScreen Aotearoa campaigns. Māori and Pacific Campaign and Action Groups (CAG) were established, with the Pacific CAG fono in March, and the Māori CAG hui following in April. - A new inspirational resource was developed featuring screening stories and encouragement from screening participants and survivors of cervical cancer along with key information about HPV and the National Cervical Screening Programme. - Work was progressed to develop and deliver translations in eight Pacific languages for the main Pacific NCSP booklet resource, which provides information about HPV and the National Cervical Screening programme, as well as for the videos explaining the different options. - Planning began for a variety of community activations/screening events to be held around the country during Cervical Screening Awareness month later in September. - Pacific and Māori CAGs continue to be integral stakeholders and partners in the planning and development processes, and in approving approaches, content, and delivery of the various initiatives.
