Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (January to March 2024) to ‘Regulate primary sunscreens as a therapeutic product’ under Outcome 3: New Zealanders have fewer cancers, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that sunscreens are currently regulated under the Sunscreen (Product Safety Standard) Act 2022 (the Sunscreen Act), which sets a standard for sunscreens that requires products to go through consistent and internationally recognised testing. The Fair Trading Act 1986 enforces this product standard.
