39054 (2024). Hūhana Lyndon to the Minister of Health: What investments, if any, will the Government make to support the introduction of a national lung screening programme?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand supports a longstanding collaborative research programme with the University of Otago to inform consideration of lung cancer screening in New Zealand. I am further advised that the international and local evidence for lung cancer screening was reviewed at the November 2023 meeting of the National Screening Advisory Committee (NSAC). Further NSAC assessment is planned with the completion of the first lung cancer screening trial, and review of ongoing research. I am also advised that preparations are ongoing for a potential future lung cancer screening programme.
