39021 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister for State Owned Enterprises: Further to WPQ 8440, is the $54.5 million dollar "vessel deposit" KiwiRail spent in the six months ending 31 December 2023 on the ship building contract of the Inter-Island Resilient Connection (IREX) project non-refundable, and if so, is this in addition to any financial penalty for "repudiation" of the contract?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: It is not in the public interest to comment on the terms of the contract that KiwiRail signed regarding the purchase of new ferries while commercial negotiations between KiwiRail and the shipyard are occurring.
