38879 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: How much, if any, is budgeted for 'Healthy Homes Guarantee Act monitoring' for the next 4 years?

Hon Chris Bishop: The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) Tenancy Compliance and Investigation team investigate breaches of and enforce compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act 1986, including investigating breaches of Healthy Homes Standards (HHS). MBIE is allocated $8.487 million per year for a range of functions relating to Healthy Homes Guarantee Act implementation and ensuring compliance with the HHS. I am advised that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development had monitoring contracts that expired on 30 June 2024, which monitored awareness of and compliance with the HHS, and to evaluate both short and long-term outcomes achieved through their implementation, but they are not deemed necessary going forward noting MBIE’s investigative and enforcement role.
