38728 (2025). Scott Willis to the Minister for Energy: Has the Minister directed MBIE to continue publishing annual energy hardship reports, if so, on what date?

Hon Simon Watts: After pausing future publications of the Report on Energy Hardship Measures due to uncertainty around the ability to produce the report, MBIE considered several options including discontinuing the report. The uncertainty was due to several reasons including competing priorities during the transition period following the change in Government, resourcing concerns, and questions as to whether some data MBIE relied on to prepare the report would continue to be available. MBIE also explored whether information relating to energy hardship might be published by other agencies such as Stats NZ or the Electricity Authority.
