38641 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Will the rollout of the National Ticketing Solution in Auckland later this year be monitored and evaluated for effectiveness before expanding to other regions?

Hon Simeon Brown: Auckland Transport will be rolling out contactless payments for public transport later this year using its current system with full transition to National Ticketing Solution (NTS) in Auckland planned in 2026. This is the first step in Auckland’s transition to the NTS. The NTS will be implemented in a phased region-by-region approach, with first implementation commencing in Timaru in December 2024. The NTS programme team will look at lessons learnt from Auckland’s roll out this year as well as each regional roll out for NTS transition in subsequent regions.
