38591 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Does she intend to ensure that Charter Schools will also be required to teach reading using the structured literacy approach; if not, why not?

Hon Erica Stanford: Requirements for outcomes will be agreed with each Charter School through the contracting process. I anticipate that a number of primary level Charter Schools will choose to teach reading using structured literacy given the evidence that this method is the most effective in teaching most children how to learn to read. Ultimately, the performance of Charter Schools will be based the outcomes they deliver for their students.
