38566 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Energy: How many electric vehicle chargers, if any, are in the pipeline?

Hon Simeon Brown: As Minister for Energy , I recently announced 25 new high speed EV charging hubs. Each hub has several chargers and will be capable of charging at least four – and up to 10 – vehicles at once, as well as being located close to amenities. Together, the 25 hubs will provide 98 chargers, capable of charging 173 vehicles simultaneously. A further 54 chargers (capable of charging 100 vehicles simultaneously) are currently under development from previous EECA funding rounds. Additionally, EECA has recently closed applications for its latest funding round focusing on urban infill charging, with up to $15 million in co-funding available. Announcements of successful projects will be made in due course. These figures do not include chargers that will be installed by the private sector without financial support from the government.
