38547 (2025). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Conservation: What cost benefit analysis, if any, have been undertaken on the environmental impacts of enabling a broader range of activities on conservation land?

Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation has completed detailed analysis to inform the Government’s decisions on conservation land management reforms. In particular, this has included detailed regulatory impact analysis that considered the case for legislative change against available alternatives, particularly in relation to changes to land management planning. Public consultation and engagement with key stakeholders, including environmental non-government organisations and Iwi, has also been undertaken. I am advised that the Department has not undertaken a formal cost benefit analysis, as this is not the best analytical tool for considering this issue.
