38546 (2025). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Conservation: What consultation, if any, has he undertaken with environmental non-governmental organisations on the proposed new concessions on Conservation land?

Hon Tama Potaka: In November 2024, the Department of Conservation released a discussion paper – Modernising Conservation Land Management – and sought input from a wide range of different stakeholders. As part of this process, I am advised that 15 environmental non-government organisations made submissions, and meetings were held with key representatives. Feedback received during consultation has informed the decisions the Government has made, and will continue to inform future decisions. Additionally, targeted consultation is now underway with a number of key stakeholders including environmental non-governmental organisations in relation to the detail to be included in the first proposed National Conservation Policy Statement. There will be further opportunities for input through the Select Committee process once legislation is introduced to the House.
