38514 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Will the Government reserve the right to cap or regulate pricing in the event of market failure or lack of competition in the electronic road user charges retail sector, if not, why not?

Hon Chris Bishop: Road user charges providers are currently subject to regulatory oversight by the New Zealand Transport Agency and the Commerce Commission. The government will consider the need for additional regulatory levers and oversight to ensure the system is fair and competitive as part of future policy work.
