38510 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What penalties will apply for non-compliance with electronic road user charges requirements for light vehicles, if any?

Hon Chris Bishop: Policy design to implement the switch from fuel excise duty to RUC will occur as part of a future phase of the work programme. This will include ensuring a fit-for-purpose enforcement approach for the new system, and associated penalties. This will be subject to a separate legislative process, which will include consultation.
