38497 (2025). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: Who, if anyone, was involved in targeted engagement on technical and operational details related to reinstating the trade of livestock exports by sea?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: In developing the proposed regulations to reinstate the trade of livestock exports by sea, I am advised that Ministry for Primary Industries officials worked with the sector and animal welfare advocates to understand the operational requirements necessary to meet high animal welfare standards. The first round of engagement involved a broad range of stakeholders, including animal welfare advocate groups, exporters, stockpersons, veterinarians, recognised agencies, and industry representatives. The second round of engagement targeted those with experience within the exporting livestock industry, including exporters, veterinarians and vessel operators, the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, and the SPCA.
