38434 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Education: In establishing the recently announced learning support for better student achievement work programme, how, if at all, does the Government plan to work with ITE providers to ensure that all beginning teachers understand how to adapt learning to neurodiverse learners day-to-day in their classrooms, as well as how to access and work with additional learning support resources?
Hon Erica Stanford: Improved teacher training is one of the Government's six education priorities. The Ministry of Education is committed to working with Initial Teacher Education (ITE) providers to ensure beginning teachers receive consistent, high-quality, training opportunities that set them up for success. The full ITE work programme will include a focus on ensuring that training builds teacher capability to meet the needs of learners with diverse needs. The Ministry will engage with stakeholders on next steps at the appropriate time.
