38413 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Social Investment: How, if at all, are the Minister's departments, if any, currently using AI, and what plans, if any, have been developed to manage the risks associated with AI?
Hon Nicola Willis: The Social Investment Agency has a policy that provides accountability and guidance on the use of artificial intelligence, generative tools, and the possible products and services created using this software by Agency staff. The policy ensures that the Agency uses AI only in ways that are safe, secure, ethical, and protect people’s data – it does so in a secure platform that does not share data outside the platform or for future training data sets. The policy also requires that any work outputs that have used AI are checked by are fully checked by a human with the expertise to identify and correct errors and biases. Staff are not permitted use AI to produce final publications or reports, and are not permitted to use AI tools with people’s personal information. The Agency reviews its AI policy every six months to ensure it stays up to date with the advancements in AI.
