38397 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Māori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti: How, if at all, are the Minister's departments, if any, currently using AI, and what plans, if any, have been developed to manage the risks associated with AI?
Hon Tama Potaka: Te Arawhiti: the Office for Māori-Crown Relations is a departmental agency hosted by the Ministry of Justice, which provides IT services to Te Arawhiti. I am advised by my Te Arawhiti officials that staff using Ministry of Justice IT services are able to use generative AI technology to access public information to support administrative activities. I am advised that a Data and Information Assessment (DIA) process is in place in the Ministry of Justice to assess impact on information assets when new systems or changes to existing systems are being introduced. Work is underway to expand the DIA process to include a data ethics assessment.
