38394 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Justice: How, if at all, are the Minister's departments, if any, currently using AI, and what plans, if any, have been developed to manage the risks associated with AI?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised by the Ministry that staff are able to use generative AI technology to access public information, to support administrative activities. A Data and Information Assessment (DIA) process is in place to assess the impact on information assets when new systems, or changes to existing systems are being introduced. Work is underway to expand the DIA process to include a Data Ethics assessment.
