38389 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Health: How, if at all, are the Minister's departments, if any, currently using AI, and what plans, if any, have been developed to manage the risks associated with AI?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised by the Ministry of Health that in July 2023 advice was provided to all agencies by the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) regarding the use and access to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) applications and Generative Artificial Intelligence (G-AI). Once the Ministry receives further advice from the GCDO on the adoption of AI, it will establish its policy on the use of AI in the workplace . Currently the Ministry has guidelines for all staff advising that AI engines should not be used for official purposes. In addition, the access to ‘AI’ and ‘ML’ applications are blocked from Ministry networks and devices.
