38388 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister responsible for the GCSB: How, if at all, are the Minister's departments, if any, currently using AI, and what plans, if any, have been developed to manage the risks associated with AI?

Hon Judith Collins: As Minister Responsible for the GCSB, it is not my practice to comment on the capabilities of the GCSB. The agency is alert to the potential benefits and the risks associated with AI and is developing a framework for assessing these. The GCSB operates in accordance with legislation in terms of how it exercises its powers of intelligence collection and analysis; any use of AI by the agency would occur within the same framework. The GCSB’s National Cyber Security Centre has published joint guidance for organisations about engaging with AI.
