38384 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Finance: How, if at all, are the Minister's departments, if any, currently using AI, and what plans, if any, have been developed to manage the risks associated with AI?

Hon Nicola Willis: I have been advised that the Treasury has an internal version of an AI chatbot that can be used for general purposes. Additionally, some AI tools are used to assist in generating code for various modelling purposes. The Treasury has established guidelines for the safe and responsible use of generative AI based on expectations set by the New Zealand government chief digital officer and guidance from the Privacy Commissioner.
