38377 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What steps, if any, has the Government taken to bind or commit a future government to the increases to fuel excise scheduled from 1 January 2028 onwards?

Hon Chris Bishop: The forward path for fuel excise duty and road user charges announced on 31 August 2026 has been agreed by Cabinet and will be reflected in the Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Update. The legislation to give effect to the increases is expected to be progressed in 2027.
