38366 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What advice, if any, has the Minister of Transport received on the effect of the 31 August 2026 fuel excise decision on local road maintenance and renewals co-funding for territorial authorities?

Hon Chris Bishop: The advice I received regarding the deferral of FED and RUC increases until 2028 addressed the impact on National Land Transport Fund (NLTF) revenue only. It did not set out in detail impacts on specific activities, such as road maintenance, rail funding, or the delivery timing of individual projects. Decisions on the allocation of NLTF funding are a matter for the NZTA Board as part of its statutory functions.
