38362 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What analysis, if any, was undertaken of the effect of the January 2027 increase of fuel excise on average household fuel costs, and what was the estimated annual cost per household?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that cancelling the increase avoids motorists paying an extra $6.90, including GST, each time they fill a 50-litre petrol tank compared to if the increase went ahead. The impact on RUC payers will vary by vehicle type and weight.
