38344 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Health: What measures, if any, is the Minister looking into to ensure health service capacity is maximized in the Kāpiti Coast District?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that measures that contribute to maximising health service capacity in the Kāpiti Coast District include: winter wellness initiatives; primary care options for acute care (POAC); access to telecare; and workforce recruitment and diversification. I am further advised that Kapiti Coast is part of the Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley District (CCHV) of Health New Zealand, and as such Kapiti Coast residents can access the comprehensive range of offered within CCHV, including tertiary and secondary hospital services at Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Hospital, and Kenepuru Community Hospital, and the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu. Wellington Regional Hospital is the tertiary centre for CCHV, and the tertiary referral centre for the Central Region. It provides a comprehensive range of specialist secondary services and regional tertiary services. Tertiary services include cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, renal medicine and transplants, genetics, oncology, pediatric surgery, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics, trauma, endocrinology, intensive care, urology, rehabilitation, and specialised forensic services. In addition, Hutt Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for burns and plastic surgery, and renal replacement is a mandatory requirement as the regional centre.
