38312 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister responsible for the NZSIS: Since 27 November 2023, what is the total sum, if any, spent on wages for any contractors and consultants who have been previously employed in a different capacity at any ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible, broken down by month, as at 4 August 2025?
Hon Judith Collins: As Minister Responsible for the NZSIS, I am advised that the NZSIS uses external consultants and contractors where specialist advice is not available internally. In addition, the NZSIS’s recruitment requirements mean occasionally contractors with existing security clearances are required to backfill positions. Approximately $1,155,131 has been spent in fees by the NZSIS to contractors and consultants who have previously been employed within the New Zealand Intelligence Community at some point in their career. In considering this sum, I would note that it is an estimate figure, based on what information can be reasonably provided through invoices.
