38300 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Transport: What evidence, if any, has the Minister received that his government is delivering more money for “… rail and public transport projects” as the Minister for Infrastructure stated in a Facebook video on 17 June 2024?
Hon Simeon Brown: The new Government Policy Statement on land transport (GPS) 2024 delivers a significant increase in funding for public transport (including metropolitan rail) as compared to the previous GPS between 2021 and 2024. The NZ Transport Agency Board has confirmed indicative funding from the National Land Transport Fund for public transport services and operations will increase by 41 per cent compared to funding allocated between 2021 and 2024. Through Budget 2024, the Government also provided $266.9 million to upgrade and maintain the metropolitan rail networks in Auckland and Wellington and $200 million to support KiwiRail to carry out maintenance and renewals on the national rail network.
