38299 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Education: What evidence, modelling or advice, if any, has the Minister received on the shared number of classrooms that will be built or refurbished from the $1.5 billion set aside in Budget 2024 for school and kura property?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that of the $1.5 billion set aside in Budget 24 for school and kura property: • $400 million of capital funding over the next two years will deliver approximately 360 additional teaching spaces (8,000 student places) via a combination of new schools and additional capacity at existing schools, including specialist schools. • $64 million of capital funding for the redevelopment of Marlborough Boys’ and Girls’ Colleges and Bohally Intermediate School will build or refurbish approximately 67 teaching spaces across those three schools. To date, I have not received any advice on the number of teaching spaces the remainder of the $1.5 billion in Budget 24 funding will build or refurbish.
