Camilla Belich to the Minister of Customs: Since 27 November 2023, what is the total sum, if any, spent on wages for any contractors and consultants who have been previously employed in a different capacity at any ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible, broken down by month, as at 4 August 2025?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that as at 4 August 2025, one former New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) employee has been engaged as a contractor to deliver training sessions since 27 November 2023. The contracting costs were $1,200 in May 2025 and $1,200 in July 2025. Customs is the servicing department for the Border Executive Board and employs the Border Executive Board Secretariat staff. The Border Executive Board Secretariat follows Customs’ policies for engaging contractors. No former employees of Customs or the Secretariat have been engaged as a contractor or consultant to the Secretariat.
