38262 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Customs: Since 27 November 2023, how many staff, if any, at ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible have been made redundant, broken down by month and by (a) voluntary redundancy, and (b) all other forms of redundancy, and of those staff, how many, if any have subsequently been appointed to a new role at the same ministry, agency or department, broken down by employment status (contractor, consultant, permanent, part time) as at 4 August 2025?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that since 27 November 2023, 58 New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) staff have been made redundant. Of these, one staff member was subsequently engaged as a contractor to deliver training sessions. The contracting costs were $1,200 in May 2025 and $1,200 in July 2025.
I refer the Member to the attached appendix which shows the number of staff made redundant by means of voluntary redundancy, and the number of staff made redundant by other forms of redundancy since 27 November 2024, broken down by month/year and number of staff.
The Border Executive Board Secretariat are employees of Customs. No staff in the Border Executive Board Secretariat team have been made redundant
