Camilla Belich to the Minister for Children: Since 27 November 2023, what is the total sum, if any, spent on wages for any contractors and consultants who have been previously employed in a different capacity at any ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible, broken down by month, as at 4 August 2025?

Hon Karen Chhour: As contractors and consultants are not Oranga Tamariki employees, they are not paid a wage from Oranga Tamariki. However, I have interpreted your question as referring to the total amount spent on contractors and consultants. I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that they do not hold data on previous employers for employees, contractors, or consultants. I am further advised that to provide the information requested would require substantial collation and research and divert staff from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 199-3, I consider that the time, and hence the expense, of answering this question in the timeframe allowed for written parliamentary questions, is not in the public interest.
