Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: When the Minister wrote to banks on 29 February 2024, and said if the Code of Banking Practice is not updated "within the year" to provide better consumer protections that he will consider options for a regulated mandatory code, did he mean updated by 31 December 2024, and if not, what future date does he consider is the deadline?

Hon Andrew Bayly: Yes, as set out in my open letter, if the code of banking practice is not updated within the year, I will consider options for a mandatory code.
