38201 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made as at 17 June 2024, toward the recommendation ‘Rapidly increase Māori and Pacific participation to 70%’ in Te Whatu Ora’s ‘BreastScreen Aotearoa Quality Improvement Action Plan’?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand has worked with Hauora Māori providers and communities to develop Māori-led programmes for whānau affected by cancer, including breast cancer.
I am further informed that Health NZ funds a range of kaupapa Māori solutions for preventative interventions; rapid diagnosis and support, and advocacy for whānau who are affected by cancer or are at high risk of cancer. Health NZ is also working in partnership with BreastScreen Aotearoa to implement opportune engagement initiatives, including in hospital and organisational settings, to remove barriers and increase access to breast screening.
