38196 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made as at 17 June 2024, toward the recommendation ‘Māori data sovereignty’ in Te Whatu Ora’s ‘BreastScreen Aotearoa Quality Improvement Action Plan’?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand is currently scoping effective pathways to ensure Māori data sovereignty is actioned through the Quality Improvement Implementation.
I am further advised that Health NZ has co-designed initiatives in Hamilton and Counties-Manukau to gain insights from wāhine Māori and Pacific women on barriers to access screening, and identify solutions from the community, including kaupapa Māori solutions. A wānanga has been held with stakeholders representing traditionally under-served and under-screened communities, including Māori and Pacific communities, to help inform development of a health needs plan as a part of the breast screening age extension planning and implementation.
