38185 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made as at 17 June 2024, toward the recommendation ‘Consumer and whānau panel to oversee re-design’ in Te Whatu Ora’s ‘BreastScreen Aotearoa Quality Improvement Action Plan’?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that consumer and whānau voice is feeding into, and shaping various aspects of, the BreastScreen Aotearoa Quality Improvement Review implementation. For example: Pae Whakatere, the governing group overseeing the implementation of the Quality Improvement Review recommendations, meets monthly and includes several members who bring a whānau voice perspective. The BSA Partnership, Action, and Equity Group (BSAPAE) and the Māori Monitoring and Equity Group (MMEG) represent community voice and were established as a way for these voices to feed into the three cancer screening programmes (breast, bowel, and cervical). Co-design initiatives are ongoing in Hamilton | Kirikiriroa and Counties Manukau to gain insights from wāhine Māori and Pacific women on barriers to access breast and cervical screening and identify solutions. The BSA Programme meets regularly with Screening Support Service Providers and Lead Providers to gain insights from the front line. Partnerships have been established with the Māori and Pacific Campaign and Resources Advisory Groups (CAGs) who supported the HPV Campaign, to work alongside the BSA Review in developing and delivering promotion and marketing work.
