38133 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if anything, is the quality assurance process for internal and external marking for the new schooling qualification system announced 4 August 2025?

Hon Erica Stanford: The proposed changes to NCEA are currently being consulted on until 15 September 2025. The quality assurance process for internal and external marking is to be determined. The feedback received through the consultation will inform the approach. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) will be responsible for making sure the marking of assessments contributing to new qualifications is done to a high standard. The Ministry of Education will work with NZQA to ensure that the qualification pathway stays credible and consistent.
