38131 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if anything, is the plan to upskill and/or train moderators/teachers of any quality assurance processes for the new schooling qualification system announced 4 August 2025?

Hon Erica Stanford: The proposed changes to NCEA are currently being consulted on until 15 September 2025. When final decisions are made, there will be a focus on quality implementation, including training and support for moderators and teachers. The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) will work closely with teachers and leaders, and provide guidance and resources, to help them understand and confidently implement the final changes. This includes using the Networks of Expertise and Curriculum Advisory Service to provide schools and kura with on-the-ground support and strengthen subject matter expertise. I encourage the sector to provide feedback during consultation about what support they need to confidently implement changes. This feedback will inform the approach to implementation.
