38034 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What safety risks have been identified for local communities during construction of the Ōtaki to north of Levin highway, and what mitigations are being implemented?

Hon Chris Bishop: I understand from NZTA that the most significant risk identified is the potential for increased traffic volumes on local roads. To address this, NZTA advise me that the project has implemented Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and traffic management strategies, which are constantly monitored and assessed for effectiveness. NZTA also advise me that the project approach also includes developing a strong internal staff awareness of safe driving behaviours.
