38031 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: How many homes and businesses are being demolished or relocated to make way for the Ōtaki to north of Levin highway, if any, and what compensation costs are associated with these?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised by NZTA that there is a total of 168 properties within the Ō2NL designation (this includes full and partial acquisition). The detailed design of the road is still progressing, and the project has requirements to reduce waste. Currently 38 buildings are confirmed for demolition and 16 for relocation, however, the exact number of properties that will need to be demolished or relocated is subject to further design refinement. Compensation related to these removals or demolitions forms part of the cost of the property’s acquisition and settlement agreement. As compensation costs are a private matter for the property owners, I am not able to provide the compensation costs.
