38018 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Does the minister have any programme of work to reduce the number of victims of fraud and deception offences as described in the Crime and Victims Survey Key Findings Report (Cycle 5)?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am concerned by the findings of the recent New Zealand Crime and Victim Survey showing a significant rise in scams and fraud. A number of projects are underway across Government to enhance efforts to prevent and disrupt this offending. In the Justice portfolio specifically, policy initiatives are focused on improving the capability of law enforcement agencies to detect and investigate the cyber-enabled fraud that is driving the increased incidences noted in the survey. This includes progressing accession to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and work to enhance our Anti Money Laundering/Countering Financing Terrorism (AML/CFT) regime.
