37892 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education
Written Question

37892 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister agree with Pip Tinning from the Association of Teachers of English who says the rhetoric around expert curriculum designers seems a bit strange because all the expert curriculum designers she knows that have had years and years of experience aren't involved in this at all; if not, why not?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that the national curriculum writing groups have collective expertise to strengthen and update the learning areas.
The writing teams are currently building on previous draft versions of the English learning area which have already had wide input from the education sector.
Providing schools, kura, subject associations and all interested parties with the opportunity to offer feedback on the usability, design, and content of the national curriculum is also a critical part of the development process.
The Education Review Office is working closely with the Ministry to provide quality assurance services across the work as an independent check, and to assist us in getting this important work right.
This is also my response to written parliamentary question 37893 (2024).
