37872 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Justice: In how many cases, if any, has a court imposed an alcohol interlock sentence under section 100C of the Land Transport Act 1998, where an earlier sentence had been imposed under section 65AI of that Act?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that where a sentencing exception under s65AI of the Land Transport Act 1998 (the Act) was imposed and is no longer relevant, a person may apply to the Court under s100C of the Act for an alcohol interlock sentence in its place. Section 100C was implemented on 1 July 2018. There have been 28 applications to impose an alcohol interlock sentence under s100C of the Act granted since 1 July 2018.
