37667 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Did the minister recommend the increase of the filing fee to lodge a claim under $2000 in the Disputes Tribunal from $45 to $59; if so why?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I recommended the increase to Cabinet, based on advice from Ministry of Justice officials. Costs of the Disputes Tribunal are partially recovered by user fees but are largely taxpayer funded. Settings to partially recover costs have not been updated on a routine basis. The increase represents a Consumers Price Index (CPI) adjustment to the fee since it was last increased in 2013.
