37580 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter January to March 2024 on the proposed action ‘establish and implement a project to ensure consistent and appropriate access to tests in rural settings, to improve timely diagnostic capability’ under ‘Strategic Priority Area 5: Driving operational improvement’ within Te Whatu Ora’s ‘Acute Care Plan 2024’?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised since January 2024, Health New Zealand has been developing the Rural Health Work Programme. I am further advised that work that progressed in January and March includes:
- the Rural Hospital Sustainability Project commenced. The first phase is discovery, which will identify the range of access to diagnostic tests in rural hospitals.
- analysis of equity of access to phlebotomy services in Te Waipounamu.
