Hon Nicole McKee: The Government is consulting on draft proposals for regulating shooting clubs and ranges. The insights will inform final policy proposals, which I will take to Cabinet later this year. Requirements should be demonstrably necessary to ensure safety – such as those related to security of premises and storage of firearms and ammunition. Requirements should not be purely administrative with no clear connection to safety outcomes. It’s important to balance the cost of compliance, so that clubs and ranges are not put in a position where they cannot provide their service.
